The Girl Within the Fandoms

Television
I watch two shows right now, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse. I don't actively participate in fandoms for these shows (yet?), but I absolutely adore both shows. I watch The Big Bang Theory now and again as well. Other shows that I have a weak spot for, but are no longer on: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dark Angel. (Are we seeing the theme of "Girls kick ass" here?)

Anime/Manga
Though I haven't watched it as much lately as I used to. I tend to stick to Bishoujo anime/manga primarily. This is "Magical Girl"/"Beautiful Girl" anime/manga for those unhip to anime lingo. Think Sailormoon, Fushigi Yuugi, Revolutionary Girl Utena, or Chobits, for example.

I love cosplay, despite the fact that my poor sewing skills leave me mostly unable to do so myself. I have a completed Rinoa costume, thanks to some help from my mom, and jagienka did an awesome job with a Gunner Yuna costume.

Books
Just one real "fandom" here: Harry Potter

Video Games
I adore the Final Fantasy Series. I even tried the Final Fantasy XI (Online) game, but got frustrated that you couldn't do much more than kill bunny critters solo. Everything really did require a party to do anything...and the servers weren't divided by region, so many of the people on the server couldn't communicate with one another. Poorly constructed...

My favorite FF games are FFVIII and FFX/FFX-2. Despite popular opinion about the game, I really don't like FFVII that much, and wasn't able to finish the game. For its time, the graphics weren't bad, but they look like lego men. Also - I really got tired of Cloud being a whiny, emo brat that talked to his little kid voice. I left him drooling, sitting in a wheelchair, and rolling into the lifestream, I think?

I am also a huge fan of World of Warcraft. I found this a better MMORPG alternative to FFXI.

The Girl Behind the Fandom

I graduated from Smith College in May 2003 with a B.A. in Psychology. I have been working since high school, and have worked for a library, a bank, a college kitchen, a medical billing audit company, and another bank. While in college, I developed an interest in computers, graphic design, HTML, and video editing. I've taught myself a decent amount of HTML through books and playing with source codes, I've learned how to use Photoshop, ImageReady, and Premiere in much the same way. When I see an effect I like, I try to replicate it using my own methods.

Originally when I had started college, I was contemplating being an architect, but the 3 hour art studios intimidated me. I eventually settled on Psychology in the hopes of going into social work or working with troubled children. However, now that I've graduated with my B.A., the idea of more intensive psychology schooling intimidates me (especially since I suck at the biological aspects of psychology). I've given passing thoughts to being a massage therapist, or going to school to specialize in working with people suffering from eating disorders, but my current passion is going to school for web design, with the hopes of eventually running my own small business. I currently work for a bank in an administrative back office role.
